AIB Customers Hit by Fresh Overcharge Gaffe

ALLIED Irish Bank has been hit by a second systems glitch - just two weeks after it emerged the bank had been overcharging its foreign exchange customers due to a transaction fee error embedded in its software.

The latest overcharging blow came as the bank was probing its systems to see what had caused the original problem.

Now it has emerged that hundreds of AIB mortgage customers have been buying insurance that they never needed.

According to a spokesman for the group, hundreds of customers who had arranged mortgage extensions had been automatically provided with optional payment protection cover due to a software error.
