US Airways Sells $1.86 Tickets |

US Airways became the low-cost carrier of all time last weekend—until somebody found the glitch in the computer. For several hours, US Airways was selling tickets to several smaller cities for $1.86 round-trip plus fees. That deal set Internet boards abuzz. With taxes and fees, the round-trip fares were about $40 apiece. After finding the glitch Saturday afternoon, U.S. Airways corrected it by that evening. A spokesman says the airline doesn’t know how many people bought the super-cheap tickets. A moderator for FlyerTalk.com, an Internet site for frequent fliers, told The Charlotte Observer in North Carolina that most of the fares involved flights into Lebanon, New Hampshire, or Watertown, New York. But several other cities, including Asheville and Hilton Head Island, were also involved. The airline has said it will honor the tickets. |
